Recently I have had conversations with friends and colleagues about “getting there.” We discussed the future and accomplishing the things we’ve always wanted. The light at the end of the tunnel is the motivation. But I’ve learned that the path towards the light is equally as important. There needs to be a sense of accomplishment but more importantly happiness during the journey.
I’ve been listening to Miley Cyrus; not tongue out, twerking Miley but Hannah Montana Miley. Not that there’s anything wrong with the prior. She had a song years back, “The Climb”
I can almost see it.
That dream I’m dreaming, but
There’s a voice inside my head saying
You’ll never reach it
Every step I’m takin’
Every move I make
Feels lost with no direction,
My faith is shakin’
But I, I gotta keep tryin’
Gotta keep my head held high
There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waitin’ on the other side
It’s the climb
I’m on this weight loss journey. Many times I get caught up in the things that I’ll do when I lose the weight. And sure sitting on a beach resort in a bikini is the ultimate goal. But I can’t get so fixated that I fail to live and appreciate this moment. I may not be in a bikini this summer. But I’ll be on the beach wearing a smile!
We can’t get so caught up in the desired outcome that we fail to appreciate the journey, the climb.
